Why Sun cream is vital part of your skincare

Thursday 18 February 2021

Sun cream is one of the most important steps in our skincare game and yet it has been underlooked for such a long time.
Even I have not been using it regularly and feel very bad because my skin deserves all the protection it can get. If you like me live in a megapolis of a city, then you most definitely should be applying sun cream on a daily basis.
The trouble is that most people think they need it only in the summer when they go on a vacation.
I was one of these people for such a long time.
Time to change and you know what they say: 'Better late than never"

As much as I enjoy the sun and I love a good tan, it really does matter we do this correctly and protect ourselves from the harsh invisible sun rays.
Just because you cannot see them does not mean they do not exist or they do not impact you. In fact, every time you go outside you are exposed. Even on a rainy day or cloudy sky.Even if it is so cloudy that you can't possibly see the sun in the sky.

Sun cream helps you get a healthier tan if there is such a thing as a healthy tan. I mean that brownish glow you see after sunbathing actually is a sign of your skin being damaged by the sun and the reaction it creates results in that colouration.

Tanning is a natural bodily process; when your skin is exposed to sunlight, it causes a pigment in the skin (melanin) to be broken down. As a result, your skin - the human body's largest organ - produces darker melanin and more of it! This production of melanin is what gives your skin a darker appearance (i.e. a tan).

Tanning is a natural protection mechanism to prevent further damage to the deeper layers of skin.

For more Read  HERE

So as trivial as it sounds the harsh truth is that we humans are so brainwashed by the fake beauty standards that a sun damage signs to our skin look beautiful to us. Not only that but we go to crazy extends to get them- to damage our own skin! Crazy!

I am not saying do not enjoy yourselves when you are on a vacation, but do so with precaution and with the necessary protection means, e.g SUN CREAM.
 GO UNDER THE UMBRELLA
WEAR YOUR HAT
BE HEALTHY

It is not ideal that when we are enjoying the outdoors and the warm sun rays, soaking up that vitamin D inevitably we are damaging our skin.
And to better understand why I say ' Inevitably" I am going to further explain.

For your benefit, you all need to understand something very important and make it simple and clear in your minds.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS HEALTHY OF SAFE TAN.

If you are still wondering why let's do this again:

Once skin is exposed to UV radiation, it increases the production of melanin in an attempt to protect the skin from further damage. Melanin is the same pigment that colors your hair, eyes, and skin. The increase in melanin may cause your skin tone to darken over the next 48 hours.

Skin tones that are capable of developing a tan, typically skin types II through V, will probably darken in tone within two days.

The Bottom Line:

Evidence suggests that tanning greatly increases your risk of developing skin cancer. And, contrary to popular belief, getting a tan will not protect your skin from sunburn or other skin damage. The extra melanin in tanned skin provides a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of about 2 to 4; far below the minimum recommended SPF of 15.

I am not going to go further into premature ageing and the risk of cancer or what types of skin conditions can occur as a result of skin sunburns.

I do trust you all that without me scaring you you will be sensible enough to take this into account and do what is best for you and your health.

Think of your skin as a garden fence for a second. If you have a good danced and high fence nothing can get in, however, if your fence is full of wholes than all kinds of things can go through it and damage your garden.
Well, think of the sun cream as a protector of your fence- your skin!

Enjoy the sun but use a suncream with high SPF protection.
Your skin will be thankful!

Why Cold Showers are super healthy

Wednesday 19 June 2019

You might have heard that cold showers are healthy but still can't take the plunge in to testing that out?
Well, hopefully the information bellow will be a solid reason for you to finally try and see what the 'fuss' is all about.

So , lets start with some of the many benefits:

- promotes fat loss

Yes, simply pouring ice cold water to the body can help cut weight. Cool showers activate brown fat, which generates heat around the body, according to Menprovement. The increased activity of the “good fat” burns calories to keep the body warm. Research showed that cold temperatures can boost brown fat by 15 times higher than the normal amount.
- improves immunity
A study in England showed that regular cold showers trigger an increase in the metabolic speed rate and the amount of white blood cells in the body, which then help fight diseases.
- gives better circulation
An improved circulation means better overall cardiovascular health. Among the benefits of taking cold showers is a good blood flow. It allows the blood to rush down to organs to stay warm.
- drains lymphatic system
Cold showers help boost the activity of the lymphatic system, which works to carry out waste from cells. This then reduces the risk of infections.
- promotes emotional resilience
study by NCBY ( The National Center for Biotechnology) shows that cold showers can help develop a nervous system that is resilient to stress. The effort alone serves as a small form of oxidative stress, which the body would adapt overtime and teach the brain to prepare for stress.
- lowers stress and depression
As the brain learns how to deal with stressful situations, cold showers could also help cut the levels of uric acid and boost glutathione in the blood, which help reduce stress. Cold showers have been found to relieve symptoms of depression by stimulating “the blue spot” on the brain that releases noradrenaline, a chemical which plays a role in alleviating depression.
- increases testosterone levels
For men, even a small amount of heat can affect the DNA, RNA and protein synthesis in the testes. One study found that 15 minutes of increased heat in rat testes led to a significant decrease in testosterone. Which then suggested that cold temperatures could reverse the effect
- improves fertility
Cold showers have been found to boost sperm count and increase fertility. Researchers said that it could also reverse the effects of hot baths that have been considered to be an effective male contraceptive. In a previous experiment, men who took a half hour of hot bath every other day for three weeks became infertile for six months.
- faster muscle recovery
2009 study showed that an ice bath after intense training improves circulation and helps remove some lactic acid, which could speed up the body’s recovery.
- enhances skin and hair
The benefits of taking a cold shower not only give better health, but also make people look better. Ice cold water can help reduce the risk of losing too many natural oils on the skin and hair, according to dermatologist Jessica Krant.  It also helps make the hair appear shiny and strengthens their grip to the scalp.
- better sleep at night
A 10-minute ice bath could help people get incredible sleep at night, according to a book titled “The Four Hour Body.” The book states that taking a cold shower gives elephant tranquilizer-like effect that will put you straight to bed.
And before I summarise,  let's have a look at 'The Four Hour Body' by Timothy Ferris, shall we?

Darphin's Secrets

Wednesday 13 June 2018

Here I am going to share with you some very useful tips straight form the Darphin Institute on How to apply face products and activate their ingredients through specific manage movements.
It is also really relaxing and distressing ritual you can perform at home.

The first time I purchased products from Darphin I intuitively followed some of their massage techniques or shall I say application tips, I also got my three favourites to perform this ritual with.
Here they are:

I have tried all three products and I absolutely loved how my skin felt. As I have mentioned in previous posts, keep it simple in terms of quantity of the products you apply on your face. I personally would treat myself once max twice a week to the chamomile oil.
Of course a good moisturising can be only done after a good cleanse of your face and here are some gadgets you might want to consider in getting those nasty dirt bits out of your dermis.

As seen on Darphin's official website. And it comes with a replacable head .

So you have your own beauty spa at home. I also feel this is a good investment as it is a quality product that will last you a long time.

Darphin also have an amazing range of face balms that are just divine and give you the glow you have always wanted.

Aromatic Purifying Balm

Overnight treatment
12 Essential Oils from plants, spices and flowers act in synergy in this 100% natural aromatic care with a fresh scent and a rare texture. Targeted for skin prone to imperfections, its 12 Essential Oils formula clarifies and promotes pure, healthy-looking skin, helps reduce the appearance of imperfections and rebalance skin's appearance for a more even complexion.

You can always combine them in your shelf the way best suits your skin type. The chamomile oil I find its super good for all skin types, and you won't regret adding it to your vanity corner.

I would love to know what do You guys have on your vanity corners and what are your secret rituals.
Hope You find this useful and please leave a comment bellow .

Facial Spa at Home

For my first beauty skincare breakdown, I have chosen one of my favourite discoveries: Darphin!
I  love this brand and all of their products.
I am also casually adding Chloe perfume because I believe its softness really complements the vibe of this post( and because I was really obsessed with the scent some time ago).
My obsession with skincare health began after I've found out the staggering science research and data on toxic ingredients in our day to day beauty products and how these can affect our health to the point some of of them are considered causes for cancer.

Women are also one of the main consumers of beauty products globally and I believe a special attention to educating young generations on this side of the market is essential.

In my "Style and Beaty Picks,"  I am going to focus on which ingredients are a "no-no" and which are acceptable if found in our skincare in a small percentage.

I will go through my personal experience and research in details as well in some of my next posts, so tune in and follow by email.

I have found Darphin as a result of my effort in using a good and natural cosmetic brand that is suitable for sensitive skin.

Their Intral collection for sensitive skin prone to redness is wonderful and I highly recomend it.  You can test one product and see the results for yourself as well.
My skin is normal to combination, however, I do tend to get redness in some areas of my face and that was the reason I decided to try their Intral range. Also,  I prefer minimal and healthier regime when it comes to skincare or makeup.
I am really not a fan of using too much creams, serums and oils at ones and I believe it is actualy harmful to your skin. It clogs the pores and it generally can put your skin in to shock. You can also destroy skin's natural defence mechanism and ability to produce oils on its own.

So keep it simple with skincare and makeup if possible. Let your skin breathe!

Darphin's skincare range is not only free from parabens but does not have the bad alcohols that dry our skin while we are trying so hard to moisturise it.

One of my all-time favourites for the harsh winter months is the "Ideal Resource Overnight Cream Anti-ageing Perfecting Skincare Treatment cream" that is also anti-ageing but does not have any harsh ingredients like some other anti-ageing products.

So if you are in a mood to spoil yourself I suggest you have a look at their beautiful website.

Next time I am going to go in details about the two things I have mentioned in this post: parabens and which are the bad and good alcohols in our cosmetic.

So Here guys are the Intral Heroes we chose for your sensitive skin and my favourite Darphin products I have tried and love.
